During December 2024 and January 2025, the UK was hit by two large storms. As part of the recently awarded OSA 2.0 contract we are responsible for the maintenance of the Openreach network. The storms caused unprecedented damage to the overhead network which in turn saw a huge amount of reactive repair work that required a poling solution. Whether that is due to damaged cables on a D pole or poles that had been blown over by the force of the storm.

Storm Darragh

Hit the UK on the 07/12/2024. Wales and The Marches being the affected areas for MJ Quinn.

• 235 estimates were received between 07/12/2024 and 31/12/2024. Only 30 storm related estimates in the first week of January. 87% cleared!
• Movement of poling gangs in the week before Christmas to ensure as much service as possible could be restored
• Assisted in areas not currently covered by MJ Quinn such as South Wales

Storm Éowyn

Storm Éowyn hit the UK on the 21/01/2025. Our main OSA lots were not impacted too much from the Storm, but a Silver Command was put in place by Openreach on Saturday 25^th. As a result, MJ Quinn received the ask to mobilise Poling gangs into Northern Ireland.

By Tuesday 28th, 3 x MJ Quinn poling gangs landed in Northern Ireland ready to assist.

• All gangs sourced from separate departments at MJ Quinn
• 34 estimates cleared within the first week
• Rotated gangs to keep footprint in Northern Ireland for a further two weeks
