The MJ Quinn HSQE Team is a highly qualified unit, consisting of 3 Chartered Members of the Institute of Health and Safety (CMIOSH), Safety Practitioners (Tech SPs) and field teams of auditors and inspection officers, who are all members of IOSH with NEBOSH qualifications.

Supporting the team are a highly motivated administration team, monitoring workloads and compliance management.

Health and Safety

Achievements:

  • 2,100,000 hours incident free (since our last RIDDOR).
  • Over one thousand H&S Audits undertaken in 2018.
  • All current Policies and Procedures reviewed and updated.
  • Regular Fire and Emergency Evacuation Testing.
  • 20 Trained Fire Marshalls across our 3 sites.
  • 33 Trained First Aiders.
  • Business Continuity Planning – MJ Quinn has a designated team tasked with identifying, developing, acquiring, documenting, and testing procedures and resources that will ensure continuity of a company’s key operations in the event of an accident, disaster, emergency, and/or threat.

Aspirations:

  • Wellbeing at Work – MJ Quinn emphasises the importance of promoting health and wellbeing in the workplace. Investing in staff wellbeing can have positive outcomes both for staff and the companies. With this in mind, the company is engaging on a programme of training employees as to be “Well-being” First Aiders.

QUALITY

Achievements:

  • Supplier Audits – Over one hundred and fifty suppliers and subcontractors, have been enrolled via the companies’ stringent “on-boarding process”, which enables management to ensure that all companies engaged by MJ Quinn reach and maintain the high standards expected.

Aspirations:

  • The company is currently working on integrating their already effective management systems in Quality, the Environment and Health and Safety into one integrated system (IMS). This IMS will benefit our organisation through increased efficiency and effectiveness, and cost reductions while minimizing the disruption caused by several external audits.

Environment

As a business we are very aware of the need to tackle our impact on the climate and to fully adopt activities that continue to reduce our carbon footprint. Whilst we are very proud of our contribution to date, we recognise that we have taken a first step on what will be a significant journey for us all.

The view that Climate Change is about long term goals and activities is in our opinion flawed and we as a business have already started to act very differently. We see behaviours (both individually and corporately), plus a flexible and rapid adoption of technology changes as key to staying ahead of the curve in terms of reducing our impact on the climate.

Achievements:

  • Carbon impact measured and reported monthly.
  • Green initiatives promoted across the company encouraging interaction to improve and incentives to achieve.
  • 21% reduction in our Carbon Footprint, 1321 tonnes of CO2e off set and certified.
  • Removal of all single use food and drink consumables in our offices.
  • Installation of low energy lighting with PIR controls
  • Waste paper is recycled.
  • Our energy is purchased from green supplies.
  • Removal of all hand towels in favour or air dryers.
  • Trial usage of hybrid vehicles and further research into electrical vehicles.
  • Video conferencing used to reduce travel.
  • Paper use reduction through advances in online applications.

Aspirations:

  • Further develop our fleet to reach a 100% zero carbon-based operation.
  • Investigate how we may adopt the use of carbon capture and storage.
  • Adopt ‘first mover’ benefits for all relevant climate change initiatives.
