Reinforcing Safety Through Collaboration:

‘Stand Down’ Session with Fleet, Civils and Poling Teams

At MJ Quinn, our values guide everything we do, and last week’s ‘Stand Down’ morning at Brocton Sandblasting Farm was a strong reflection of this in action. Bringing together colleagues from our Fleet, Civils and Poling teams, the session created a dedicated space to focus on the fundamentals that keep our people, our operations and the public safe.

Getting the Basics Right

The morning centred on in-depth vehicle checks, with a particular focus on load security, vehicle condition and weight compliance. These critical checks are essential to ensuring our fleet operates safely and efficiently on the roads.

What stood out most was the level of care, attention and diligence demonstrated throughout. The session reinforced that getting the basics right—every time—is key to preventing risk and maintaining high standards across our operations. This is a clear reflection of our value Safety Always Matters, ensuring that safety remains at the forefront of every task, no matter how routine.

A People-First Approach to Learning and Development

The ‘Stand Down’ also provided an opportunity for teams to come together, share knowledge and learn from one another. By creating an open and collaborative environment, colleagues were encouraged to ask questions, exchange experiences and strengthen their understanding of best practice.

This approach reflects our commitment to People First—supporting our teams, investing in their development and creating opportunities for meaningful engagement across the business.

Driving Operational Excellence Through Continuous Improvement

We also caught up with Richard Wenham MAFP MARRM CMILT, who shared valuable insight into the importance of continuous improvement across all areas of fleet operations. His perspective reinforced that maintaining high standards requires ongoing review, learning and refinement.

By embedding a culture of continuous improvement, we continue to drive Operational Excellence, ensuring our processes remain effective, efficient and aligned with the highest industry standards.

Recognising a Commitment to Quality and Safety

A special thank you goes to Kerry Teesdale (CMgr) MAFP and the wider team for delivering such a well-organised and engaging session. The professionalism and preparation behind the event ensured it was both informative and impactful for all involved.

Supporting a Safer, More Sustainable Future

Sessions like this not only enhance safety and performance in the short term but also contribute to a more sustainable future for our operations. By ensuring vehicles are compliant, loads are secure and processes are efficient, we reduce risk, minimise environmental impact and operate more responsibly.

This directly supports our value of Sustaining Our Future, ensuring we continue to build safe, reliable and forward-thinking operations for the long term.

Bringing Our Values to Life

The ‘Stand Down’ morning is a great example of how MJ Quinn’s values come together in practice. From prioritising safety and supporting our people, to driving excellence and thinking ahead, the session showcased the very best of our organisation.

A huge thank you to everyone involved. Your commitment and professionalism ensure that we continue to operate safely, deliver quality and uphold the standards that define MJ Quinn.
