Self Install Telecoms Engineer – Trainee

Job description:

Please note this job entails outdoor lone working with travel between jobs. You will be working as on a sub-contracting basis not as an employee. If you are looking for a PAYE role then please do not apply.

We are currently resourcing Telecoms Engineers to carry out simple provision work on the Openreach Network for a national contract.

The work involves installing telephone systems by working inside roadside located cabinets (PCP). You will jumper wires from the e-side to the d-side of the cabinet and complete line tests to ensure good working lines for the end user.

You must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. Foul weather PPE will be supplied along with a vehicle, tools and the equipment required to complete every job safely and to the highest standards.

Customer satisfaction is key aspect of any work you will carry out and first impressions count. You will need to be customer focused, polite and well-presented.

You will be employed on a sub-contract basis and not PAYE, if you are looking for PAYE then please do not apply.

Although previous experience will be prioritised training can be offered to the right candidate. The ideal trainee will have a trade background in electrical installations or similar and a willingness to learn. Experience of working outdoors in all weathers is also preferred.

basic Job requirements:
  • Be prepared to complete a full accreditation course to licence you to work on the Openreach Network

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

NON-ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Previous experience working work BT, Sky or Virgin media
  • Previous experience of telecoms, working off ladders or external network installation.
  • Have worked in an Engineering or technical environment and have relevant work experience

The Job

Fibre Engineer

The Job

MJ Quinn are looking for field based engineers to assist building the Fibre network in rural Wales from the Aggregation Node to CBT.

your duties will include:
  • The installation of OH & UG CBT’S;
  • The introduction of ULW cable and COF600;
  • The installation and build of new TM joints;
  • FNC splicing at Aggregation Nodes and splitters;
  • Testing CBT ports and splitter nodes;
  • The introduction of sub duct 5 and COF200;
  • Reading an understanding Microsoft Word/Excel/PDF based Job Packs;
  • Reading and understanding BT Duct diagrams;
  • Working in confined spaces and at heights;
  • Working outdoors in all weathers.

As a result MJ quinn are looking for the following skill sets:

  • Multi Skilled PON Build Engineers;
    • Ability to splice, cable, climb and test
  • Fibre Splicers;
  • OH & UG Cablers;
  • OH Hoist Support Drivers;

All assets and vehicles will be provided by MJ Quinn necessary to carry out the relevant roles.

How MJ Quinn will process payments?
  • All payments will be on a synthetic rate card
  • You will be paid on a weekly basis on successful submission of your weekly timesheet through an umbrella agency;
  • Engineers who are deployed greater than 70+ miles from their home post code will receive an out of area payment which will be paid at the end of each week. This is paid per day per person.
Suitable candidates must be willing to:
  • Travel to and from various exchange locations on completion of works;
  • Work to PON completion deadlines to ensure operational requirements are met;
  • Work in confined spaces;
  • Work at heights;
  • Working unsupervised in teams of two;

Field Based Coordinator

As a Field based coordinator, you will support the field management across an array of workstreams in order to achieve the overall business goals and objectives.of the UK and Ireland. We have over 1500 workers delivering our services, operating from our offices in Liverpool.

Your role will also include:
  • Responsible for the onsite validation of Openreach job packs, across work streams such as fibre, copper, civils and poling to ensure that the planned works meet the required timescales and commitments;
  • To maximise the fluidity of all work assigned, in support of both direct labour and sub- contractor engineers;
  • Ensuring all KPI’s and targets are met in areas including customer satisfaction, safety, quality and field team’s performance;
  • Ensure that completed works are in line with the claimable synthetics that are on offer;
  • Liaise with third party agencies such as Traffic Management and Tree Cutting suppliers to ensure all works are carried out to the required standards;
  • Communicate with a multitude of stakeholders from local HA’s to an extensive supply chain to ensure communication is easy and transparent regarding project updates;

You will be responsible for performing all store related administrative duties, whilst contributing towards the delivery of a world-class service as part of a dynamic team.

  • Assists in the provision of real-time visibility of our stock holdings
  • Integral in the maintenance of an accurate and extensive inventory database
  • Assists in the maintenance of product information integrity on CRM including price, manufacturer, description, supplier and average lead times

Inventory Controller

You will be responsible for managing all inventory control related activities. Executing inventory control measures to ensure the company minimises stock holding and maximises stock system and paperwork accuracy. The role carries responsibility for working with staff, engineers and visitors on a daily basis and liaison with the purchasing department, goods inwards and dispatch to ensure necessary functions are carried out correctly.

Your role will also include:

  • Develop the company’s inventory management strategy with the aim of controlling costs within budgetary limits, generating savings, rationalising inventory and maximising available working capital
  • Manage and maintain the company’s material and stocked product inventory including stock profiles and stock locations
  • Manage and control perpetual inventory stock counting / inventory accuracy checks
  • Minimise overstocks and removal of obsolete / redundant raw materials to maximise availability of working capital
  • Ensure that goods inward / stock control department is well organised and controlled to sufficiently support production and the goals of the business.
  • Ensure incoming product is receipted and managed appropriately according to company procedure.

Quality Auditor

We are currently recruiting for two Quality Auditors to join our team. One based in North Wales, one in South Wales.

You will be responsible for covering your designated areas ensuring all daily quality audits on MJ Quinn engineers are completed to the MJ Quinn standard.

  • Aid in clearing defects when practicable, including clearing minor defect during audit then reporting back to QEHS

HSQE Officer

As a HSQE Officer you will be responsible for carrying out regular audits and inspections of work locations, plant and equipment including calibrations and make recommendations advocating options for remedial and preventative actions.
