MJ Quinn Apprentices in the News

16.09.2019

MJ Quinn featured in local news last week due to our fantastic partnership with All Saints School, Knowsley. As mentioned in the Kirkby Extra, 4 of our current 6 apprentices joined us from All Saints. They are now working with our Operational Support Team at the MJ Quinn Training Academy to become multi-skilled Telecommunications Installation Engineers.

The MJ Quinn Apprentice selection and on-boarding process has been recognised as best practice by Knowsley Chamber of Commerce and Partners as is now being rolled out regionally with local Employers.

“The on boarding process for recruiting Apprentices through a High School was completely new to MJ Quinn however the process we created worked extremely well and enabled us to engage with our Apprentices from the very start of their journey. Our six apprentices have been a pleasure to work with and we are excited to watch them grow and develop as competent Telecoms Engineers within MJ Quinn and share their journey and experience with future Apprentices”

Shelby Grant – HR Manager

The Operational Support and Training Teams combined to designed a comprehensive 24-month apprenticeship programme. The apprentices will be skilled across all of MJ Quinn’s current Telecom workstreams, Copper Provision, Self Installation, DLSAM, & Fibre. In addition to technical training from MJ Quinn, GK Apprenticeships, will work with the team to incorporate additional content to meet the apprenticeship structure. These include basic electrical principles, ICT and an outward bound team building event.

“I am delighted to have the apprentices under the Service Delivery Operational Support Team umbrella. As a team we have a wealth of knowledge and experience. Our coaches have mentored and trained previous apprentices and we have several ex apprentices on the team. We have built a robust support network across the team to provide a pool of mentors that the apprentices can approach for additional support and guidance. I am confident that we will provide the apprentices with everything they need to make a success of their apprenticeship and build a longstanding career with MJ Quinn.”

Paddy Small – Operational Support Manager

All 6 apprentices have successfully completed their Self Installation Training and are currently progressing through in-field sign off, they will be starting formal Copper Provision Training within the next few weeks which will see them learn how to safely climb and work on telegraph poles.

“The apprentices are progressing at a great pace and are all far ahead of where we expected them to be at this stage. They are information sponges who can’t wait to learn and try more things. Each one has experienced working at heights, turning at the top of a telegraph pole and have all worked in field on live jobs. They greet every day with such enthusiasm it is a pleasure teaching each one of them.”

Paul Corrie – MJ Quinn Trainer

We would like to congratulate all 6 young men on their successes to date and wish them all the best of luck as they move through their apprenticeship.
