Fairhaven Hospital required a comprehensive refurbishment and extension to modernise its facilities, improve safety, and enhance the environment for both staff and service users. The scope included electrical upgrades, fire safety improvements, anti-ligature installations, and general building enhancements across multiple areas of the hospital. The challenge was to deliver these works within a live healthcare environment, ensuring minimal disruption and full compliance with stringent health and safety regulations.
Upgraded electrical systems, installed compliant fire alarms and emergency lighting, and replaced doors to meet fire safety regulations.
Installed anti-ligature fixtures and replaced doors with anti-barricade, mental health-safe designs.
Upgraded HVAC and water systems, and installed modern data, security, and nurse call infrastructure.
Completed full internal refurbishments including decoration, flooring, and ceilings, with external upgrades to fencing, drainage, and landscaping.
MJ Quinn delivered the refurbishment and extension works at Fairhaven Hospital through a phased and coordinated approach. The project began with detailed surveys to assess the condition of electrical and fire systems, followed by upgrades to ensure full compliance with safety standards. New LED lighting was installed throughout, tailored to each room and fitted with anti-tamper features. Fire doors were replaced with FD60-rated models, and bedrooms and ensuites were upgraded with anti-ligature fixtures and converted into wet rooms.
Infrastructure improvements included new boilers, heating pumps, ventilation systems, and insulation. Modern telephony, data, and security systems were also installed to support operational efficiency.
The team completed decoration and flooring works using durable, trust-approved materials, and carried out external improvements such as roof repairs, fencing reinforcement, and pathway cleaning. All works adhered to Mersey Care NHS Trust policies and relevant health and safety regulations.
