Fibre Cities

Openreach

BRIEF

Our client, Openreach have pledged to bring fibre to the premises to 4 million homes by March 2021. MJ Quinn are supporting this pledge through our Fibre Cities work in the North West of England. Our teams have a target of reaching 275,000 homes across circa 40 exchange areas.

SOLUTION

To enable MJ Quinn to reach this target we have grown both our field force and back office support network. Our field force has grown to accommodate a wide range of skills and experience adept at completing the often-complex technical work across our geographical domain.  We have also implemented a robust management team which includes operational support coaches, quality auditors, health and safety advisors, supervisors and project managers. Our back-office network supports the field through planning, noticing and arranging traffic management as well as on the day jeopardy coordination.

To ensure we have the best possible people working on our Fibre Cities project the MJ Quinn Training Academy provides bespoke training to both our administrative and technical staff. We offer continuous training to ensure our people are working safely and to the highest quality standard. As an Openreach accredited training facility the MJ Quinn Training Academy are able to train a new generation of engineers.

As the work undertaken is in our home area, MJ Quinn have already established strong, longstanding working relationships with local sub-contractors and as such we have demonstrated the ability to flex the number of field engineers up and down in order to meet demand peaks.

COST-BASE

At the successful conclusion of this financial year end MJ Quinn have a revenue target of circa £40 to £45 million.

Our engineering field force is in excess of 100 cross functional gangs who carry out works including Civils, Cabling, Splicing and Test, Rod and Roping.

Our back-office function now stands at 55 staff, all of whom receive full street works and noticing training as well as the essential core skills to help them to support our team.
